I work at a letterpress print shop/fine press book publisher in Oldham --Incline Press-- where a constant job is "dissing type" or putting the pieces of metal type away. Today I'm standing in front of a case of 14 point Garamond looking across at our Imperial hand press and, in the right hand corner, the Victoria platen press, two metal composing sticks hang on the furniture rack next to me. It's dark and it's raining, but the workshop feels homely, and Charlotte Green is making the bad business of the daily news sound alluring.
