Listeners' photos at 5pm
Hello PM,
This is a picture of yachtsmen Mike Golding, left, and Alex Thomson, back in Southampton after Mike dramatically rescued Alex in the Southern Ocean during their round the world race. It was taken at 5pm yesterday as part of my work as a press photographer for the Southern Daily Echo here in Southampton. I like it because, although both men are tired as a result of a long day on the media merry-go-round, I think it still expresses something of the tension and Alex's relief in being rescued. Incredibly, Alex described how once in the life-raft, the seas were so big that he almost lost sight of the top of Mike's 25m high mast. It was fantastic to see them both alive.
