Listeners' photos at 5pm
I am not usually home from work this early but took some work with me this eve & turned on Radio 4 when I got in the car. Just happened to have my camera in my bag because I arrived back to London from Naples, Italy last night (where I had celebrated my 50th Birthday). When I heard it was today at 5 pm that one was being asked to take a photo I wasn't quite sure where I would be. Arrived home to a slightly late Birthday card from my son who is at university. "On Your Birthday, Granny" made me worry for just a moment (was there something he hadn't told me?). Then I realised it was just his sense of humour. I placed the card on the piano before turning on the radio to check the time. It was 5pm. Snapped the photo as I turned around.
The photo shows the view I saw at that moment - a collection of cards from loved ones placed on top of a rarely played piano and above it is a photo montage which includes photos of my parents, children & other family members taken in England, the US, France and Portugal.
This is a view of my world but not necessarily one that which I see at 5pm on most days.
My house is located in the Dalston area of the London Borough of Hackney - not a place that is usually in the news for good things but one I have grown to love over the years. I was born & raised in NYC but have lived in Hackney for 24 years. My house is part of a Georgian property once owned by the GLC and now part of Hackney Housing Cooperative.
I am pleased to be able to share part of my world with others around the world.
