PM Listeners sent us their photos of their world at 5pm on Tuesday 5th December 2006
At 5pm on 5th December 2006 I was testing 5 radios that I had acquired a little earlier in the day. So what you see on my picture is exactly what I was looking at at that time.
How does one "acquire" 5 radios in a day? Well, sadly, it is related to how we value a second-hand radio in this era of disposable, digital everything.
This morning I was arranging for the saleable items from a client's house to be transported to an auctioneers premises. Anything judged to be unsuitable for the auction was to be dumped. I'm afraid that my eccentricity will shine forth here, but I'm probably not the only Listen With Mother, Goon Show, Archers, etc. - suckled baby boomer who would have difficulty allowing that to happen. Most of these radios are good old British-made dinosaurs (Hacker and Roberts) and will probably work for ever. So they are here, rescued and with the promise of a long and useful life, unless a government decides that analogue radio signals will shortly go the same way as those for television.
No, this isn't typical of my view of the world at 5pm, but I'm glad to say can't think of anything that is typical of my day at 5pm.
