When you spot a clue from the TV show or in one of the flash games, or by solving a puzzle on the blog or completing a community challenge milestone, you can enter it into the Codebreaker for that week.</p> <p>Each Codebreaker will give you a password every time you change one of the clues. Once you have entered all six clues, you should write down the password you receive. After you've completed all three Codebreakers, you'll have three passwords. These will let you unlock the Ultimate Challenge!</p> <p>The <b>Ultimate Challenge</b> will be made available after the third episode has been broadcast. Using your three Codebreaker passwords, you can unlock it and work on getting closer to that prize! This requires players to find clues in the programme itself, via online games and blogs, and through collaborative challenges taking them on a mathematical journey of discovery. Although this is a competition – including a point at which entries will be made and a final with a prize for the winner – it is hoped as many as possible participate and enjoy this journey, including those who may be ineligible for the competition itself (please check carefully).</p> <p class="tc-question">Terms and Conditions</p> <p>1. Whilst all are encouraged to participate in the treasure hunt, entry in the competition element is open to all UK residents (including Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) aged 18 or over, except BBC employees or those of its affiliates and their close relatives or any person connected to the competition. Proof of identity, age and eligibility may be requested.</p> <p>2. Although collaboration is encouraged, only individuals can register for the last stage of the competition and if successful take part in the final (see below).</p> <p>3. Each week participants need to collect six clues. Three from within the television programme, one from playing an online game, one by solving a puzzle posted on The Code blog and one through a collaborative exercise. Full details will appear on the website each week.</p> <p>4. Each week players enter their six clues into The Codebreaker which will then reveal a new clue. When they have three new clues (one for each week) they enter these on the website to access the second stage of the competition. They will only know if they have the correct three clues at this stage. These weekly answers and all the clues used to derive them should be noted down and kept for later as part of the hunt.</p> <p>5. After the third programme instructions will be published on the programme’s blog on how the participants in the hunt use their three clues to access the second challenge. Correct solution of this challenge will reveal further information, including how to enter details for a chance to take part in the final. It is important to retain all your work in solving this last challenge, along with your clues and answers from earlier in the hunt.</p> <p>6. The BBC will contact successful entrants from Thursday 1 September 2011. Entrants will need to have their answers available and may also be asked to solve another puzzle within a 24-hour timescale.</p> <p>7. The first three successful entrants, after verification and eligibility validation, will be invited to the final treasure hunt somewhere in the UK on Saturday 10 September 2011. The final is the last stage in the treasure hunt: a series of clues will need to be solved, leading to the prize. The winner will be the first finalist to correctly solve all the clues and find the prize. This final will be filmed and edited with the intention to broadcast.</p> <p>8. Reasonable return travel to the location of the final will be provided to the finalists. No other expenses or costs will be covered by the BBC.</p> <p>9. The winner will receive a specially designed maths-inspired trophy produced using 3D printing technology.</p> <p>10. The prize is stated as above. There is no cash alternative and the prize cannot be sold or transferred in any circumstances.</p> <p>11.The BBC's decision as to the winner is final. No correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into.</p> <p>12. Entrants agree to take part in any post-competition publicity if required. The names of finalists and the winner will be made public.</p> <p>13. Your personal details will be handled by the BBC in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
